A staff member for Modesto City announced that Green Acres Nursery & Supply will locate a new store at the former Toys R Us property, a move the city described as a boost for local economic development.
"Everyone has been wanting to know what will be developed at the former Toys R Us property," the staff member said, and the city added that the Green Acres team is moving through permitting with an anticipated opening in spring 2027. City communications called the business family-owned and said the expansion will create new local economic opportunities.
The announcement did not include a timeline of permitting milestones, the size of the new store or the number of jobs expected. The staff member encouraged residents to follow Modesto City channels for updates on permit progress and a firm opening date.
