Jefferson County commissioners approved the local road and streets fund (1169) for 2027 and adopted several changes to the highway fund (1176) after a detailed review of salt, summer help and vegetation-control requests.
Staff reported large line items and several proposed increases tied to expected changes in materials and labor. On snow-and-ice control, commissioners said maintaining winter readiness is a public-safety priority and kept the snow-and-ice budget at existing levels while shifting some summer-help requests downward to balance resources.
Commissioners also discussed vegetation-control reductions driven by state funding cuts; the board voted to lower the stone budget to $35,000 while leaving the snow-and-ice funding unchanged. One committee member said the highway request was “proactive” and expected the state to ask for reductions in the submitted numbers; staff agreed the county could revise items after state feedback.
The board moved and approved the 1169 local road and street contracts and carried motions on highway line-item adjustments by voice vote; the transcript records affirmative votes but does not include a full roll-call tally for each motion.
