District leaders updated trustees on Crowley ISD’s implementation of Senate Bill 1882 (the 1882 partnership) and the district’s work with Paul Quinn College and the Quinite Network to redesign middle‑school experiences. Presenters described four implementation pillars—academics, field experiences, social-emotional learning and family engagement—and pointed to measurable growth on STAR assessments across middle schools.
Dr. Tamisha Stepinski and Quinite Network partners highlighted key strategies: double-block math for sixth and seventh grades, opportunities to access Algebra I earlier, expanded field trips (including a New York summit and a summer leadership institute), AI summer programming and entrepreneurship showcases. Stepinski said the most significant gain was a 6 percentage-point increase in 7th grade RLA compared with the prior year and a 4-point increase in 6th grade math. The presentation included funding details: the partnership received one‑time grants (CSP and SAF) for the first year and anticipates approximately $5.2 million to support the 1882 middle-school model in 2026–27, with an $860,000 positive variance versus initial projections.
Trustees asked about sustainability and how the programs would scale; presenters said the district intends to move from isolated events to sustained experiences and will report back with more detailed outcomes at the workshop and future meetings.
