During public comment and staff Q&A, speakers raised alarm that the SEBS (social work services) budget shows fewer full-time-equivalent (FTE) positions even as demand for services appears to be rising.
A public commenter asked directly why the SEBS budget is declining while student needs increase. A district staff member responded, "We've actually reduced the number of FTEs for SEBS," and said certain positions were right-sized during budget development. Trustees pressed staff on enrollment declines and whether reduced state share and voucher activity contributed to funding pressures. Staff confirmed current enrollment at 12,032 and said the district is about 200 students shy of earlier projections; officials said some returns are expected after Labor Day and that adjustments would be made during the year if needed.
Trustees directed staff to continue monitoring service levels and to report any necessary midyear adjustments.
