The board voted Aug. 26 to offer a one-year extension to Peak Power Systems for generator maintenance rather than putting the contract out to competitive bid. Chair moved the extension as the second year option under the original contract; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote, with one member objecting during the tally.
Members raised concerns about past service quality and the fairness of repeated extensions vs. opening competition. "We've had some disagreements about the quality of the repairs that they've done and the pricing that they've given us," the Chair said, explaining reasons staff had considered rebidding. Others argued that published fixed rates and the ability to lock in a vendor sometimes deliver better pricing and continuity. The board recorded the extension motion as approved and directed staff to prepare the contract documentation.
