Mayor Turner-Sloss expressed concern about incomplete demolition and contamination at the former Buckeye Cleaners on Salem Avenue and about debris left after demolition at the former bus barn on James H. McGee Boulevard.
"The former Buckeye Cleaners property on Salem Avenue remains the subject of an active court case," Mr. Gondol said, adding that the Law Department is working with the estate and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to resolve the matter and seek restitution from the estate to address the remaining structure. He said additional environmental remediation at the bus barn site may be necessary and could be borne by the City or shared with the EPA, depending on requirements.
Mayor Turner-Sloss requested that staff secure the Santa Clara site and install caution tape or other barriers after noting that previous barriers had been removed. She also asked that debris left at the former bus barn be cleaned separately from future foundation-removal and remediation work and asked staff to coordinate with Public Works to address overgrown vegetation and illegal dumping near Bryn Mawr and Oxford avenues.
Gondol said the Santa Clara and former bus barn sites are among options to be presented for consideration in the 2027 budget process, and that remediation priorities will need to be balanced against residential demolition work.
