At a public-comment period, Linda Reiner of Christian County urged commissioners to slow any move toward data-center development and require environmental and sound studies, no tax incentives, and citizen participation in research before any approvals. "I feel like it's being shoved down the throats of rural Americans," she said, citing concerns about water usage, wastewater disposal and noise.
Commissioners responded that no company has formally approached county staff or requested permission to build a data center. One commissioner told attendees the morning listening session upstairs was intended to gather citizen views and to "listen," not to finalize approvals. Staff said they are conducting due diligence and said planning-and-zoning protections offer a layer of review if proposals arrive. The board encouraged public participation in planned study sessions and a review of the comprehensive plan before any land-use decisions.
