The Planning Commission voted to forward the Medical Lake Comprehensive Plan 2026 to city council after staff described recent edits requested by the Washington State Department of Commerce.
Planner Alisa said Commerce provided draft comments earlier in the week, which resulted in four pages of revisions including new housing goals and clarified language on future land‑use mapping and urban growth-area (UGA) treatment. The revised draft adds explicit housing goals and explains the difference between a comprehensive-plan future land-use map and the city's zoning map.
Alisa told commissioners the draft accounts for changes in housing types, density and state expectations: "They also made a recommendation, and I believe it was a good recommendation, to add goals to this section," she said. Commissioners asked few substantive questions and a motion to recommend approval as drafted was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Staff noted that final adoption will continue through city council and that further minor changes may be made if county actions on the UGA swap proceed. The commission’s recommendation allows the plan to move forward to the next procedural step.
