The Senate Human Services Committee recorded final votes on two bills during its meeting in Room 113.
SB 534 (Sen. Padilla) — Motion: that the assembly amendments be concurred in. Final committee tally: 4-0 to report out. Padilla said the bill "requires counties to provide foster youth before they turn 18 the last known whereabouts and contact information for their parents and siblings." Ed Howard of the Children's Advocacy Institute testified in support.
SB 1322 (Sen. Richardson) — Motion: that the assembly amendments be concurred in. Final committee tally: 4-0 to report out. Richardson said the measure is intended to simplify the Department of Social Services' program rules for tribal applicants and avoid processes that require tribes to "relinquish sovereignty." Chris Lunschroom spoke in support on behalf of the sponsor noted in the transcript as the Pala Band of Mission Indians.
Both items were reported out of committee with concurrence in the Assembly amendments and will proceed to the next stage of the Senate process.
