The North Spearfish City Council approved an award for the Sandstone Hills remediation project to John Anderson Sons after staff reported the low responsive bid of about $271,194.50 and recommended full-depth replacement (alternate B).
"The engineer's estimate for the project was 341,000 or a little over 341,000," Adam Jones said, noting the city received three bids and that the low responsive bid was well under the estimate. Jones told the council staff and consultant recommended awarding alternate B for full-depth removal and reconstruction of the asphalt.
Council members moved and seconded the award and a roll-call vote approved the motion. The project was previously put out to bid following council direction earlier in the year and staff said the alternate B scope involves removing all of the existing asphalt surface rather than just a mill-and-overlay.
The city will proceed with the contract award and notify the contractor to schedule work; staff indicated the intent is to complete construction as weather and schedules allow.
