Two downtown retail-infrastructure grant requests were heard on Aug. 27 and tabled for final action at the Sept. 24 meeting. The Shorty's McKinney LLC presenter (referred to as Brian) described restoring the 1875 masonry building at 109 N. Kentucky St., exterior electrical and plumbing and site work with a requested reimbursement of $29,644 (75% of the exterior-infrastructure cost as originally presented). The applicant told the board the building had required significant investment ($739,000 to date) and emphasized its historic character and neighborhood-serving menu.
At a separate hearing, the Hope Hardware Building representative (Cleo) outlined an up-to-$50,000 request to install an internal grease trap and associated plumbing at 214 E. Louisiana St., describing complexities of installing the trap inside the building because alley utilities prevent an exterior installation. Board members raised questions about funding percentages and prior grant expirations from 2023; staff clarified that the request was capped at $50,000 and that the board typically funds up to certain percent levels depending on program rules. Both items' hearings were closed and votes scheduled for Sept. 24.
