Representative Nan Cobb presented a $525,000 state appropriation to the Lake County Water Authority on Aug. 26 to support work on Hicks Ditch and nearby Pine Meadows.
"I'd like to present you with a check today for $525,000 to the Lake County Water Authority," Cobb said, thanking local staff and partners for their help in securing the funding. She described the ditch as at "a complete standstill" and urged the board to use the money to restore flow that leads into Trout Lake.
The chairwoman thanked Cobb and invited trustees and staff to pose for a photo with the representative. Trustees said the appropriation was the result of coordinated advocacy with the county delegation and outside partners.
Why it matters: Board members said clearing and restoring the ditch would reduce local flooding risk and improve water quality downstream by reestablishing flow into Trout Lake. The appropriation is an early-stage infusion intended to support initial restoration and conveyance work, according to remarks during the meeting.
Next steps: The board and staff will follow up with project planning and coordination with county partners to apply the funds toward dredging/clearing and related restoration tasks.
