The Lake County Water Authority used its Aug. 26 meeting to formally recognize outgoing chairman Robert "Butch" Hendrick for eight years of service.
Chairwoman Bertie delivered a lengthy tribute that highlighted Hendrick's role in projects including Lake Denham restoration, an alum treatment on Lake Yeal, easement negotiations that protected county interests and his work during a major washout on Wolf Branch Road. The chairwoman said Hendrick "saved millions of dollars of taxpayer money" and described him as an "irreplaceable asset" to the authority.
Hendrick accepted the recognition and thanked his wife and colleagues. "I was very proud to be on this board and I'm proud of what's been accomplished," he said, before joking with trustees and noting he remains engaged in local work.
Why it matters: Board recognition marks a leadership transition for the authority and documents continuity on several ongoing restoration and water-quality projects that trustees said will carry forward under new leadership.
Next steps: The authority will continue staff and board oversight of the named projects and incorporate Hendrick's institutional knowledge into ongoing planning.
