Logan of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission presented creel results for Lake Dora and Lake Beauclair, reporting 1,100 anglers counted and 923 interviewed during the Dec. 2025–Apr. 2026 sampling window.
Total effort reported for the two lakes was 33,457 hours. Logan described a historical pattern—both lakes were once crappie fisheries—but said that clearer water after downstream restoration (the agency referred to it as the "nerf" facility) and increased vegetation have contributed to stronger bass recruitment and a shift in angler effort toward bass.
Logan said FWC plans to continue long-term monitoring and revisit the creel every 2–3 years to track trends. Trustees discussed the tourism and economic value of bass fisheries and asked staff to coordinate potential social-media promotion of the results.
Why it matters: The shift from crappie to bass affects local anglers, tournament usage and outreach strategies; continuing monitoring will help managers evaluate the ecological tradeoffs of restoration measures.
