Commissioners urged the parks department to dig deeper into splash-pad reliability after staff described a string of failures and slow vendor response. Commission member Speaker 9 urged a broader examination of the approach, saying the splash pads have been an issue for at least two years.
Staff responded that many splash-pad controllers and parts are proprietary and that vendors may be based overseas, which can extend lead times. Tony said Green Meadows required at least a CPU replacement and that City Park’s splash pad will close for Labor Day weekend to allow installation of a new playground that requires an eight-week construction window. Commissioners suggested exploring simpler mechanical options or alternate vendors but staff cautioned about chemical dosing and liability concerns with non-automated systems.
