Council hears plan to seek PennDOT ARLE grant to evaluate and update traffic signals

Borough Manager Jess Novinger and Public Works Director Sam Shaffer told Council they met with PennDOT representatives, Council member Matt Swartz and Joseph Lyons on Jan. 6 to form a tentative plan for cycling funding to evaluate and replace Milton’s traffic signals. Novinger said the next step is to hire a traffic-signal consultant to prepare drawings and cost estimates.

Novinger asked Council to consider a resolution authorizing the Borough Manager to sign the first application for the Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) grant cycle; she noted the ARLE application is due in June and does not require a municipal match. Council did not vote on the authorization at the Jan. 11 meeting; Novinger said she will inform Council as estimates and consultant work progress.
