Public works update; officer reports uptick in meth-related crimes

Public Works Director Sam Shaffer told Council that all Christmas decorations have been removed, crews are picking up Christmas trees and brush this week, and they have responded to several minor winter storms without incident. Shaffer said work is progressing to enclose the Recycling Center but he did not specify a completion date.

Officer Lehman, speaking for an absent Chief Zettlemoyer, reported that the borough has seen an increase in methamphetamine use and crimes related to the drug. Mayor Aber noted the success of the Christmas Program delivery and thanked donors and volunteers; he said participation in the program has grown each year. No specific enforcement actions, arrest counts, or program budgets were provided in the Jan. 11 discussion.
