Delmont council elects Walczer president, Bigley vice president; mayoral vacancy tabled

Delmont Borough Council elected Robert Walczer as council president and Chris Bigley as vice president during its Jan. 5, 2026 reorganization meeting. Tina Campbell moved to appoint Walczer as council president; Krista Krautbauer seconded and the motion carried despite one recorded opposition. For vice president, Pam Simpson nominated Chris Bigley; Krista Krautbauer also received a nomination, producing a 3–3 tie that could not be broken because the mayoral seat is vacant; Krautbauer conceded and Bigley was appointed vice president.

Council discussed how to fill the vacant mayoral seat. Members agreed to accept letters of interest from residents and voted to table the appointment for the 30 days allowed under borough procedures. Robert Walczer moved to table the appointment and Tina Campbell seconded; the motion carried. Council also voted to advertise the vacancy so interested residents can submit letters of interest.
