Dr. DiPonio told the Lake Shore Board of Education on Jan. 10 that safety and security remain a "continued primary focus," and detailed recent physical and programmatic measures the district is using to reduce risk.
"We dedicate human resources and finances," Dr. DiPonio said, describing a reviewed threat-assessment process and emergency alert systems. He listed recent physical upgrades, including core doors, thumb bolts and night-lock barricades, and said staff are vigilant about facility security.
The presentation also covered mental‑health supports available to students. Dr. DiPonio cited partnerships and services the district uses, naming Care Solace and Care of SE MI and adding that social workers, counselors and psychologists are part of the system of supports.
Board members toured the new Early Childhood Center and Community Center construction site after the presentation; President Kurt Ziegler later thanked Dr. DiPonio for organizing the workshop.
