During the public comment portion of the March 21 hearing, residents urged the council to prioritize the Activity Center for CDBG or SSP funding.
"The ramp is great, but once they get to the doors, they can’t open them," said Diane Hildebrant (175 Skyline), arguing that the facility’s accessibility problems limit use by seniors and people with mobility needs. Several speakers and council members said restoring the kitchen and modernizing bathrooms and doors would allow the center to host senior meals, after‑school activities and rentable events that could generate modest revenue for the town.
Town staff and SEAGO advised that a clearly scoped, shovel‑ready design or an SSP planning grant would strengthen any CDBG application for facility modernization. Councilmember Christy Hirshberg noted that improvements could create rental revenue and reduce operating burdens by enabling more local programming.
The town will include the Activity Center modernization concept on the project list for later consideration; no funds were committed at the hearing.
