Nyack building department adds staff, plans records digitization by year-end

The board heard a presentation from the building-department official (Speaker 4) about two recent hires and a planned migration to electronic records. Speaker 4 said the part-time hire, Christian Amano, "started yesterday, was the 1st day" and will spend 17.5 hours per week organizing paper files into a searchable system; a second hire, Kelly Manioli, will begin on March 4 and serve as a full-time assistant to the department.

Speaker 4 described a plan to digitize thousands of property files and populate a property inventory (bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, year built) so that future applicants do not need to resubmit data already in the system. He said the village is preparing contracts with vendors and hopes to have the building-department records fully digitized "by the end of this year." Trustees requested monthly financial reports for the department and asked that new hires be introduced at a regular meeting when practical.
