Several residents asked detailed questions about groundwater: whether the casino or its managers plan to drill wells, whether the tribe must notify the city and community, and whether cleanup of the New London mine on nearby tribal property could impair local wells. One resident said the DEIS/FEIS suggests prior well configurations could not sustainably provide 24/7 water for a larger earlier project and demanded the county produce promised well data.
City staff and the sheriff said they do not control tribal well decisions and that compacts can allow tribes to drill wells; they noted that Jackson Rancheria previously installed monitors on some private properties as part of its compact. Officials said the New London mine parcel is a separate, capped parcel under state oversight and that they will provide documentation and historical meeting packets referenced in resident requests.
