Board denies union grievance after executive sessions

The Winthrop School Board moved into two executive sessions early in its meeting: one to consult with legal counsel and a second to discuss a labor matter. On return, the board voted to deny a grievance filed by the Winthrop Education Association under the parties' collective bargaining agreement and instructed the chair to provide the association with the board's written decision within five days.

The motion on the grievance directed compliance with the contract provision cited by the chair; the chair moved the denial and it was seconded and approved unanimously. The board recorded that the chair would issue the written decision in accordance with the referenced article of the contract.
