Julian, the county’s internal auditor, told the committee auditors had requested remote access to the county financial system and described the technical approach the county IT team is preparing: a dedicated physical computer in the clerk’s office that audit staff can remote into.
"The only way to get remote access will be to actually have a physical computer with it turned on that we can remote into. And they're setting that up, I believe, in the clerk's office," Julian said. He added that the remote-access setup would allow auditors to extract data independently and reduce the burden on the clerk’s staff, although the committee was told the configuration takes time and follow-up with Dana in IT will be required.
Julian said the audit could still start without remote access, but relying on provided information is “not ideal.” The committee asked staff to press for the setup so the auditors can begin substantive work without overtaxing county personnel.
