Residents told the council the Activity Center is underused because the kitchen is not functional and doors and bathrooms are not fully accessible. Diane Hildebrant urged the town to restore a kitchen and make doors and circulation ADA‑compliant, saying "the ramp is great, but once they get to the doors, they can’t open them." Several speakers said repairing the Activity Center could support meals, classes and rental revenue for community programs.
Town Manager Suzanne Harvey asked whether a CDBG or SSP application could cover broader modernization rather than only a kitchen; SEAGO’s William Osborne answered that SSP grants are often used for planning and design to prepare a shovel‑ready construction application and that CDBG regional account money typically funds a single implementation project. Osborne emphasized applicants should identify specific eligible activities and designs in the candidate list so an application will score well.
Council members and residents discussed using the facility both for senior services and for revenue‑producing rentals; the mayor directed staff to include the Activity Center modernization or kitchen restoration among the candidate projects for the resolution. The public hearing record will be used as the formal list for potential CDBG submissions.
