Board declines to add remaining organizational business to today's agenda

During the organizational meeting a motion to add remaining organizational business (board rules, committee assignments and boards-and-commissions appointments) to the Jan. 2 agenda was offered and seconded. Supporters argued that addressing those items at the organizational meeting would reduce limbo for departments and committees; opponents said the chair should have time to prepare and that adding complex appointments on short notice is imprudent.

After a roll-call vote the motion to add the items failed. Commissioners agreed to hold a special meeting on Jan. 13 to address appointments, board-rule changes and some committee work, and several members asked for better advance notice and staff preparation when such matters return to the board.
