Pitman discusses lead pipe requirements, water surcharge and Alcyon Lake maintenance

Councilwoman McCleery raised upcoming NJDEP requirements related to lead pipe replacement and said the borough needs to plan for the associated costs. Administrator McCafferty said the borough could either raise water/sewer rates or renew the existing water surcharge ordinance enacted for 2024–2028; she added that known large purchases could be moved into Capital when appropriate.

CFO Bachich noted that road improvements included in Capital assist in completing projects that are only partially funded by grants, which could interact with water infrastructure work. Separately, McCleery urged planning for Alcyon Lake management so cleanup and improvements underway will require only maintenance going forward rather than repeated large expenditures.
