Erasmo Viveros, public affairs director for the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) Central Network, briefed the Ponderosa CSD board on services available through membership. Viveros said CSDA can provide reports on pending or new legislation, facilitate roundtable discussions with elected officials, help obtain letters of support from state senators, assembly members and congress members, and resolve issues with state agencies; the association also offers mandated trainings such as AB123 sexual harassment prevention, financial and ethics courses, access to forums, and conference opportunities (some costs may be covered through scholarships).
Board members discussed potential benefits and logistical details but did not vote on joining or changing membership at the Jan. 24 meeting. Viveros noted some CSDA services (consulting) may carry fees; the board requested follow-up information about applicable costs and scholarship availability for conferences.
