Village officials described storm damage to the marina and a contractor proposal for emergency repairs, but trustees declined to ratify the emergency award during the March 28 meeting pending answers to outstanding questions.
Mayor James S. Mallott described lost pilings and damaged dock sections and said the village expected to pursue insurance but could not yet rely on recovery. The emergency proposal from Fire Island Marine Services details repositioning the pier, installing a cluster of greenheart pilings, resetting ice‑jacked poles and replacing a roughly 30‑foot waler section at the end of Bayberry Walk, with a proposed cost of $107,950.00. The board had earlier removed the dock emergency item from the agenda to resolve remaining questions; Mayor Mallott said the board will poll members for ratification and consider ratifying at the next meeting.
Superintendent Kevin Schelling confirmed winter damage and noted repair priorities, while the board recorded that no emergency contract was ratified on March 28. “We just have a few more questions that we need to put out there. Hopefully we'll get this done this week. I'll go to the board and poll the board for ratification to approve this emergency work, and we'll ratify it at next month's meeting,” the mayor said.
