Representatives of the Ocean Beach Community Fund told trustees they will underwrite a project to mitigate summer heat in the Community House, with a grant expected to total between $50,000 and $60,000 depending on electrical work. Holly Etlin, speaking for the fund, said the project had been years in the planning and credited volunteers and trustees who advanced the solution.
"We are very pleased to announce that ... we are funding that, uh, with a grant to the village, uh, which will be somewhere between $50,000 and $60,000 depending on where the electrical work comes out," Etlin said. Village counsel and the administrator clarified whether the fund would gift the completed project or convey cash; counsel said the fund intends to engage the contractor and gift the completed project but the village can accept in the form agreed with the donor.
Mayor Mallott said the village will provide a scissor lift to place concealed ceiling units and noted the plan calls for quiet outside compressors and air curtains on doors to optimize cooling. Trustees thanked the fund and volunteers and noted the project will reduce extreme indoor temperatures during events.
