The Incorporated Village of Ocean Beach Planning Board and Architectural Review Board voted April 11 to recommend approval of Special Permit Application #332 from Nalu Dry Goods, Inc., the board’s chairman said.
"I make a motion to recommend approval of this application to the Board of Trustees at its next regular meeting," Chairman Joseph Speranza said, and the motion was seconded by Alternate Member Robert Stack and approved unanimously. The recommendation will be transmitted to the Board of Trustees for final action after a public hearing.
The boards attached one explicit Architectural Review condition: the store sign must "match in every respect in dimensions and appearance and nomenclature of the other three signs" on the building and should be purchased from the same company to preserve architectural continuity, Speranza said. Applicant Marie Fischer confirmed the sign was quoted from the same maker.
Village Attorney Peter Bee clarified that, acting in both capacities, the Architectural Board’s condition will be included as a condition in the resolution sent to the Board of Trustees, while the Planning Board’s recommendation is otherwise a separate procedural action. The Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on the recommendation on April 25 before taking final action.
