Several residents and village employees addressed trustees on March 28 to urge the board to preserve historical camp scholarship practices that have allowed children of year‑round village employees and residents to attend the village camp.
Byron Chenault, speaking for parents, asked whether the scholarships are still available after what parents said were sudden notices to pay fees. Counsel Peter Bee replied the matter is under review and that the village is consulting NYCOM. "We're also in consultation with NYCOM on that," Bee said. Residents said the scholarships matter to staffing and retention for essential seasonal services, including lifeguards and emergency personnel who often include camp alumni.
Trustees acknowledged the community concern and said they are exploring options to maintain or restructure the prior approach but could not provide details while legal counsel reviews the program. Parents asked the board to preserve the program, citing the program’s role enabling local employees to work and families to remain in the village.
