Board accepts donated gift to renovate children's room; approves using gift for windows, lighting and sheetrock

The board voted to accept a gift designated for renovating the library's children's room and to use those funds for windows, lighting, sheetrock and painting.

A member presented an updated quote from a local contractor and said the contractor could assemble a team for plumbing and excavation work if needed. Members discussed replacing low windows (already identified as a safety and insulation issue), improving lighting and the logistics of moving books and shelving during work. They agreed the project aligned with a recent donation earmarked for the room and that basic renovation work should proceed pending a small set of additional recommendations.

During the formal motion, a member said, "I make a motion to Use the gift to do the renovation for the children's part of the library, and that will include paint, windows, sheetrock, and lighting." The motion passed with unanimous assent. The board asked staff to collect a couple of contractor references and to consider shelving options so the children's area can remain usable or be temporarily accommodated during construction.

Next steps: staff will follow up with contractor references, schedule work considering library programming, and report back to the board with timing and interim book-storage plans.
