Board accepts low-dollar settlement to resolve $9,000 in penalties for Tenaglia committee

The Illinois State Board of Elections accepted a $1,200 settlement offer from Friends of Jim Tenaglia to resolve outstanding civil penalties totaling $9,000.

General Counsel advised the record showed a prior $2,000 assessment remained unpaid in addition to the $7,000 at issue, yielding $9,000 total outstanding, and recommended accepting the $1,200 offer given the committee's low balance and favorable ratios. A motion to deny the appeal and accept the settlement was moved and seconded; the board approved the settlement with one member recorded as abstaining.

Board materials show the settlement represented more than half of the committee's current balance, and counsel said the offer met several settlement guideline factors for low-dollar committees.
