Cold Spring grants Riverkeeper permission to sweep Dockside Park on May 2

The board approved Riverkeeper's request to organize a shoreline cleanup at Dockside Park on May 2, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon. Staff said Parks manager Declan cleared the request and that the village will provide limited support from the roadways and facilities crew (a truck to haul debris and a bin for disposal); the crew chief Robert Downey volunteered to assist as in prior years.

The clerk and staff confirmed Riverkeeper provided a certificate of insurance and that the village requested indemnification language to specifically include the village. The board moved, seconded and approved the request by voice vote. Officials said the event engages volunteers year-to-year to remove river-borne trash and keep the shoreline safe while natural "rack" (organic debris) remains governed by the state management agreement.

Staff noted the event is part of a broader regional Riverkeeper sweep that involves multiple communities along the river and that periodic park sweeps also occur under other village volunteer efforts.
