Kurt William, recreation superintendent, and Kim Boyd, interim director of parks and rec, presented a community engagement proposal to test public support for a Tahoe City community center and a possible funding measure. The board directed staff to make a focused, non‑leading survey and to remove price examples from public materials.
William described the plan: a project web page, QR-enabled brochures and outreach at farmers markets and events, and an open survey through Labor Day. "The survey is intended to gauge community interest on the proposal of the recreation options and the level support," William said. Staff emphasized the exercise is exploratory and not a commitment to place a measure on the ballot.
Board members requested tracking of response sources to differentiate outreach channels and asked staff to present analyzed results to the Parks & Rec committee and the full board in September if the survey yields usable data. Staff also emphasized grassroots recruitment to identify volunteers willing to form an advocacy group if the measure proceeds.
