Police department staff proposed obtaining a NYSERDA electric vehicle to serve as an auxiliary patrol vehicle that would not be used for arrests (no cage) but would reduce mileage on existing fleet cars during busy months. The vehicle was presented as a near-budget-neutral option if acquisition and minor outfitting could be covered by a grant and remaining local funds.
Trustees asked for operational details, rostering plans, and whether charger infrastructure would be needed; staff said charger installation could probably be covered from an identified grant balance and the vehicle could later be reassigned to highway or water/wastewater departments when patrol needs changed. Board members asked police to confirm actual usage schedules and to provide a clearer cost estimate of any minor vehicle modifications not covered by the NYSERDA program.
The board did not finalize a purchase at the workshop but directed staff to continue evaluating the vehicle as a bridge item while the village develops a regular vehicle-replacement schedule.
