Residents urge clearer notice and simpler appraisal process as assessments jump

A stream of public commenters pressed the board to improve outreach about assessment deadlines and to make the objections process easier for residents who lack resources for outside appraisals.

JT Robinson, representing a constituent, said confusion about whether two outside appraisals were required discouraged many from filing and risked pricing poor households out of relief. "These kind of questions, they never get answers," he told the board, urging clearer guidance on when an outside appraisal is needed.

A county staff member and supervisors repeatedly said the district must follow statutory timelines and that written objections filed now compel board review. The board agreed to consider larger, clearer statutory advertisements next year and to keep a list of citizens who want notice about the millage-decrease hearing later in the budget process.
