Yarmouth committee flags tourism fund money that could help small public-art projects

At the Aug. 3 meeting, staff reported that the Town of Yarmouth’s tourism revenue preservation fund currently has dollars available to support public-improvement projects.

Staff (Megan) told committee members that $130,000 was approved at town meeting toward the fund, and that one ongoing project (the Bass Hole boardwalk) had used approximately $149,000 in public-improvement funds; she said there would be roughly $60,000–$70,000 available for other projects depending on exact accounting and commitments. "$130,000 was approved at town meeting," Megan said when summarizing the available pot.

Members discussed using the tourism fund to match small grants such as Mass Cultural Council awards (mentioned in the meeting as roughly $2,500–$5,000) and recommended that potential applicants coordinate early with DPW or conservation staff to confirm site suitability. One member suggested partnering the town match with a Mass Cultural Council award for installations at sites such as Parker River Landing.

Staff said the tourism-fund bucket renews each July, so the committee could plan proposals for the next funding cycle rather than treating it as a single one-time source.
