Fort Buenaventura Mountain Men to mark America250 with Memorial Day rendezvous; county invited to participate

Representatives of the Fort Buenaventura Mountain Men asked the Weber County Commission to support and promote their Memorial Day weekend rendezvous as part of America250 commemorations.

"As you know, this year marks America's 250th anniversary," Marty Smith told commissioners, explaining the committee opted to "integrate our celebrations and national commemoration into communities already well established and successful events." Katie Ransom, who introduced herself as captain of the reenactment group, said the four-day rendezvous will include demonstrations, traders and educational programming "open to the public." Ransom said the group has worked with Weber County Parks and Recreation and offered commemorative medallions to the commissioners.

Commissioners praised the volunteers and the site's educational value. Commissioner Jim Harvey noted the site's multiple attractions and encouraged attendance, while Chair Forell and other commissioners said the event is a valuable local asset for history education and community engagement.

The presentation concluded with an invitation for commissioners to take photos and accept medallions; the event is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend at Fort Buenaventura.
