Weber County approves interlocal agreements to expand paramedic coverage with local fire districts

Weber County commissioners on May 12 approved a set of interlocal agreements with multiple fire districts to provide paramedic services across the county.

"I believe that we... have 1 of the best paramedic programs not just in the state, but throughout the nation," emergency management presenter Lisa Gosselin told the commission as she introduced the agreements with Northview Fire District, Ogden City Corporation, Roy City and Weber Fire District. Multiple fire chiefs spoke in support, thanked the commission for continued backing and highlighted system performance. One chief said the program has operated since 1986 and credited it with saving lives; another chief reported an "average response time is about 05:40, at least in the most populated areas," noting that crews are meeting national reliability benchmarks.

Commissioners praised the interagency cooperation and approved the resolutions by roll call; Chair Forell announced the motions carry. The agreements formalize shared paramedic staffing and aim to maintain competitive pay and retention to keep the county's paramedic workforce robust.

The commission approved separate resolutions for each listed district; staff and chiefs said the contracts will help keep paramedic skills current and sustain patient outcomes.
