Commissioners approve multi-year TRT partnership with St. George; debate centers on county credit and visibility

Washington County commissioners adopted the proposed multi-year TRT funding partnership with St. George City that covers support for the St. George Art Festival and other events in calendar years cited in the motion. Staff said the agreement aims to shore up long-term partnerships and help events that have “significant economic impact” in the county.

Several commissioners raised concerns that municipalities and event organizers sometimes omit public acknowledgement of county contributions, which reduces visible credit for the county's support. One commissioner said it can be effective to make an in-person presentation: "Maybe just send them an email and say, hey, we wanna make you aware that, you know, Washington County has approved these funds," a commissioner suggested. Staff and commissioners discussed alternatives including co-branding requirements in agreements, threshold rules for in-person check deliveries, and more outreach by partner-relations staff; after discussion the board moved and approved the resolution by voice vote.
