During the public hearing on the Crime Control and Prevention District budget, Susan (speaker 8) told the council to be "vigilant" about how the new budget is implemented.
"I just want to, caution council and make them sure that you are vigilant this coming year as this new budget is implemented," Susan said, adding that the proposed budget "is heavily weighted towards personnel" and that startup purchases such as drones and cameras are one-time costs that could leave less room for future expansions.
Council members and staff responded to her concerns: staff said the CCPD board approved the budget on July 7, 2026, and the city will provide quarterly reports to show how funding and positions are used. Staff and the police chief also clarified some positions were transitioned from the general fund into the CCPD and that the CCPD provides an additional funding source specifically for police-related items.
