Fitchburg public‑works brief: inlet inspections, Belmar/Tower Hill utility wrap-up, and Syene–Irish flood study

Public works staff reported that most utility work in the Belmar neighborhood is complete and paving/restoration remains; crews installed several large cast‑in‑place inlet structures on Crescent Road. The stormwater utility has started a systematic inlet inspection program and is creating GIS‑linked work orders to prioritize repairs.

Staff also described a new stormwater/flood study for the Syene–Irish Road intersection, where a 3–4 inch rain two years ago caused overtopping and first‑floor flooding in nearby homes. The study will build a hydraulic model of the watershed and look for feasible storage or infrastructure changes; staff cautioned that the city owns limited land in the watershed, so solutions may focus on storage or downstream modifications.
