Senator Daryl Russon and Representative Adam Anderson visited the commission to present state funding for shelter hardening and to speak briefly about storm response and preparedness.
"It's a privilege to be here today to present this 4,000,000 in state funding to Pinellas County for the hardening of 2 special needs shelters," the senator said, explaining the money will help install generators and related equipment so medically vulnerable residents have a place to go during outages. Burton and commissioners accepted the presentation and posed for the ceremonial check.
Representative Adam Anderson, who said he represents northern Pinellas County, noted recent storm experiences and the county's shortfall in taking care of medically fragile residents during outages; he thanked the legislature and the governor for the appropriation.
