Minocqua board backs plan for 80x60 indoor baseball building at park, contingent on attorney review

The Minocqua Board of Supervisors voted June 23 to support the Lakeland Area Baseball Association’s proposal to build an indoor baseball facility at the Minocqua Park Complex, with the condition that a final use agreement be reviewed by the town attorney before construction proceeds.

Robert Blohm, representing the Lakeland Area Baseball Association, presented final plans and renditions for the structure and told the board, "The building is 80 X 60," noting the club has donations and committed funds earmarked for the project. He said he has coordinated siting with Director of Public Works Mark Pertile and provided the board with drawings and a map of the proposed location.

Chairman Mark Hartzheim confirmed the town would own the building if the project moves forward. Supervisor Brian Fricke voiced concern about funding shortfalls and asked what would happen if the association lacked sufficient money to finish the project; Blohm responded that donations and committed funds exist but that a formal agreement would be required. The board’s motion to support the project was made by Supervisor Billy Fried, seconded by Supervisor Lance Krolczyk, and carried on a voice vote; Supervisor Fricke recorded a nay vote.

The board directed that a formal agreement between the town and the Lakeland Area Baseball Association be drafted and reviewed by town attorney Greg Harrold before any construction begins. Next steps for the project include completion of that agreement and subsequent review/approval as required by the town.
