Commission keeps 32-day cap by consensus and asks staff to draft final conditions before hearing

The Page County Planning Commission indicated by voice consensus that it would retain the current annual limit of 32 event days for Sandals Speedway rather than grant the applicant’s requested increase toward 50 days.

Chair Hahn called for a consensus on whether to keep the annual cap at 32; commissioners responded in the affirmative. Commissioners also discussed adding a monthly "noise-free" weekend and debated whether rainout make-up dates could be used in lieu of a free weekend. Rather than finalize permit language the commission directed staff to prepare a single, internally consistent draft of conditions that addressed event counts, hours, and enforcement methods before scheduling a public hearing.

Staff noted the procedural timeline for notice and review, and commissioners discussed the soonest feasible public-hearing date; Sept. 22 was identified as the earliest potential hearing if staff and legal review are completed ahead of time. No final permit vote occurred that night; the commission’s direction was to return with a legally-vetted draft.
