Resident urges extra protections near schools as fall construction ramps up

A staff presenter said the city's traffic engineer and a traffic inspector review traffic-management plans and that the city has a "Safe Routes to School coordinator" who works with schools on bike and pedestrian safety. "We have a Safe Routes to School coordinator that does look at safety issues around schools for kids who are biking and walking to school," the presenter said, adding that staff meet with schools regularly and that reporting through the city's myCville system helps trigger inspections.

The participant urged particular vigilance as the fall semester and student travel patterns return, and suggested verifying contractor cleanup and daily maintenance to avoid debris hazards. Staff recommended parents and school staff report specific issues through the myCville portal so the city can follow up.
