Fort Mohave leaders push new compact to replace 2004 agreement, seek 1,200‑device allowance

Matthew Lee told the committee the Fort Mohave submission is a full, new compact replacing a 2004 agreement and consistent with other recent compacts. "It contemplates 1,200 gaming devices, at up to 2 gaming facilities," Lee said, adding the compact uses a federal two‑part determination mechanism for potential land‑in‑trust gaming sites that would require federal and gubernatorial approvals.

Vice Chairman Shan Lewis testified the 2004 compact's site restrictions prevented development, and the new agreement offers realistic opportunities for modest gaming development, jobs, and funding for tribal governmental programs. "The revenue generated by our facility will help fund essential tribal governmental programs and services for our members, while also providing jobs to all Californians," Lewis said, and asked for the committee's support for ratification when the bill reaches the floor.
