The Anacortes City Council voted to adopt Resolution 3196, approving the 2026 Skagit County Hazard Mitigation Plan update, including the city’s annex.
Public Works Director Logan Lee said the plan identifies natural hazards, evaluates likelihood and consequences, and lists actions to reduce risk to residents, infrastructure and public facilities. He noted federal hazard mitigation funding programs generally require an approved plan for eligibility and that the city has been specifically analyzing the Whistle Lake earthen dam under related grant programs.
Council members had no substantive edits; the motion to adopt the multi‑jurisdictional plan passed by voice vote. The resolution will make the city eligible for certain federal mitigation funds and the plan will remain a living document subject to future updates.
